    WMF German Bottle Coaster Secession Fine Silver Plate Wine Coaster Nickel Silver Utensil Table Flat Wear Jugendstil Neusilber WMF 1935-1965.  Art Nouveau, Jugendstil, Secessionist Designed WMF Fully Marked Bottle Coaster, Rare Find.  Founded in 1880 by the merger of two existing German companies, the WARTTEMBERGISCHE METALWARENFABRIK or WMF was, around 1900, the world's largest producer and exporter of household metal ware, mainly in the Jugendstil and Secessionist style.  It was the secessionists aim, through its use of the methods of mass production, to make artistically designed, contemporary Jugenstil objects of daily use (such as candlesticks, ashtrays, lamps, beakers, vases, planters, jardinieres, tea and coffee sets) accessible to a broad selection of the public. This was made in the first half of the 20th century as a decorative item and is lightly polished. There are some signs of use and wear.  This is an important piece of WMF manufacture in the early to mid 20th century.
