  • Condition: This is an Original Red Ute / Edward Bent Box Sr. Traditional Handmade Indian Flute. The flute is made of Walnut with a white totem attached on top and the Signature "RU" in marker on the side. The tag is marked walnut but the wood has a deep red color not like the last walnut flute we had sold. The flute has leather strips attached and is a 5 hole in the Key of F#, F Sharp. This flute appears new but is second hand so we are describing it as used. It is in excellent condition. This flute retains its original tag. The flute measures approximately 21-3/4 inches long and 1-1/4 inch in diameter. The totem measures approximately 2-1/4 inches long, 1-1/4 inch wide and 3/4 inches tall. This flute is one of the last remaining original stock pieces purchased from the maker's estate.     Edward Bent Box / Red Ute - his Indian Name, (April 1, 1920 - September 18, 2012) was a Traditional Spiritual Leader of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and member of the Moache-Capote Bands of the Ute Nation.
    One of his greatest passions was traditional Indian flute-making. He was a member of the Indian Arts and Crafts Assn. (IACA), Southern Highland Craft Guild, and the International Native American Flute Assn. (INAFA).
