RAY CHARLES. Ray Charles (1930-2004) was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and composer. He was known as “The Genius” for having pioneered the soul music genre in the 1950s. Charles was blinded during childhood, possibly due to glaucoma.

Exceedingly rare vintage ink signature of, “Ray Charles,” on a beige album page, measures 6.25 by 4.75 inches, in very good to fine condition with a rectangular stain touching the signature and an additional unknown signature above, and accompanied with a letter of authenticity from Real: Roger Epperson Authentication Ltd. Charles is extremely rare in authentic material, as his aides nearly always signed on his behalf or at best guided his hand. This bold, unassisted signature exists as a true musical rarity. Two similar Charles signatures recently sold for ,130 in July 2017 and ,125 in March 2018 at RR Auction.
