    Description

This Powell #1868, Silver Handmade French (open holed) Flute has an Inline G, a C Foot, and engraving on the body as shown in the photos.
The original owner's initials are on the headjoint and the footjoint. The engraving on the flute body reads, "Carol Joan Figdell (? letters are a little hard to read) Portland Junior Symphony 1953-1959," with initials "C.J.F." on the head and foot joints.
This flute is circa 1958 so it's more than 60 years old! This flute was overhauled by Verne Q. Powell Flutes Inc. in 2010 when Straubinger pads were installed. Pads look very good but this flute has not been played in 6 years so it probably needs an adjustment. Flute has not been recently polished.
Old C foot Powells like this one are beloved for beautiful tone, projection and ease of playing in the highest register. Those upgrading to this instrument from a modern student brand may find the transition challenging because it's a little harder to play a vintage Powell with good intonation compared with a modern flute. The reward for the effort is a lovely rich, warm tone that projects out to the parking lot!
Flute will be shipped carefully packaged via FedEx or US Postal Service, insured and tracked.  Please email with questions and concerns before bidding.
Returns are not accepted, but it might be possible to find a local flute pro who would play this flute for you and give you an opinion. I no longer play flute so I can't provide a video clip. --Karla Harby
