This is a new, original, handmade, Intermediate Model Grenadilla wood headjoint by master headjoint maker, J. Novo.
Mr. Novo invented his professional model ultra-thin Grenadilla wood headjoint for the metal concert flute in April of 1983, a design that is now imitated (but not duplicated) by other makers worldwide.
    J. Novo has now introduced a new and very exciting Intermediate Model Grenadilla wood headjoint designed specifically for the semi-professional player. This new J. Novo Intermediate Model Grenadilla wood headjoint is only available for a limited time.

Professional flutists who perform and record using the J. Novo Professional Model wooden headjoint includes:
    Loren Lind
    (Philadelphia Orchestra), Jazz legend
    Ira Sullivan
    ,
    Dave Watson
    (Alicia Keys),
    Nestor Torres
, and many others. The late Latin jazz flutist Dave Valentin was selected in 1990 by music arranger Dave Grusin to play one of Mr. Novo's Grenadilla wood headjoints on the soundtrack of the major motion picture
    HAVANA
    , starring
    Robert Redford,
because of the beautiful tone it produced.
The retail price for this Intermediate Model Grenadilla headjoint is $ 1,199.00. Don't miss this great sale!
This ultra-thin wooden headjoint is made from carefully selected premium grade Grenadilla wood (also known as African Blackwood), the same type of wood that is used for making professional oboes, clarinets, and flutes.
Grenadilla is - by far - the best wood to use for making woodwind instruments. In fact, all major manufacturers of these instruments only use Grenadilla because no other wood in the entire world can match its special properties.
The Grenadilla wood that was used to make this headjoint has been seasoning on racks for over 70 years and is among the best in the industry. Grenadilla wood of this high quality is very rare to find these days (please see www.blackwoodconservation.org). Quite unknown to many, Mr. Novo was instrumental in the establishment of the African Blackwood Conservation Project through his research work entitled: "The Grenadilla Story," published in March of 1985. Thanks to - and as a result of - the African Blackwood Conservation Project, Grenadilla wood will continue to be available to future carvers and musical instrument makers for generations to come.

    THE SECRET IS OUT!
The secret to having a big, gorgeous, and beautiful flute sound is no longer a secret thanks to Mr. Juan Novo, maker of the J. Novo wooden flute headjoint.
Controlled scientific tests have finally confirmed that 95 – 98% of the tone color of the flute (the “sound” of the flute) is produced only by the headjoint and by the headjoint alone. The headjoint, therefore, is the most important part of the flute in regards to how the flute will sound when it is played. Thus, the headjoint is the heart of the flute. It is through the headjoint that the air column inside the flute is energized, set on fire, and brought to life in a musical phrase
    .
Many flutists are now discovering that nothing beats the big and rich sound of a wooden flute. However, a wooden headjoint on a metal flute will produce the same tonal quality of sound as a flute made entirely of wood. So, if you already own a metal flute (silver plated, sterling silver, or gold) but you prefer the deeply rich, full, and big sound produced by wooden flutes and perhaps are thinking of purchasing one, save your money! You don't have to buy another flute. The J. Novo wooden headjoint on your metal flute is all you need to get that big beautiful sound. Thanks to Mr. Novo and his clients, many flutists are now discovering that you don't have to spend a lot of money buying a wooden flute, or a solid silver, gold, or platinum headjoint to get a fabulous, professional sound. All you need is the J. Novo wooden headjoint!
Theobald Boehm, inventor of the flute
Interestingly enough, it was Mr. Theobald Boehm himself, the famous inventor of the modern flute, who strongly recommended the wooden headjoint and metal body combination over 150 years ago! In the very popular book: "The Flute and Flute Playing," by Theobald Boehm (translated by Dayton C. Miller), we find the following on p. 56: "
Boehm frequently combined two materials, making the body of silver and the head of wood. It was in his later years that he most strongly advocated this combination
." In other words, the very person who actually invented the flute,
Theobald Boehm, revealed to the whole world
    more than 150 years ago
    the "
    Secret
" to producing the best and richest sound on the flute: and that is, using a wooden headjoint on a metal flute. It doesn't get any clearer than that!
    The J. Novo Advantage
Mr. Novo has advanced the design of the thinned wooden headjoint to a level that has not been equaled to date.
The J. Novo ultra-thin wooden headjoint for the concert metal flute produces a strikingly rich sound. Its elegant fullness of tone, gorgeous resonance, excellent sound projection, and ease of playing places it in a class all its own and exemplifies the zenith of wooden headjoint manufacture. Every headjoint is truly a work of art. The smooth, soft, and warm feel of the wood on the lower lip provides for a much more pleasurable performance compared to the hard and cold feel of a metal lip plate, and the anti-slip texture of the wood prevents the lip from slipping around when wet. Therefore,
    lip position
is actually more secure on a J. Novo wooden headjoint than on any metal lip plate, plain or engraved.
    Moreover,
as an added bonus, the high register notes are much easier to play
on a J. Novo wooden headjoint than on any other headjoint, metal or wood,
due to the many unique features combined into one.
You get a big, rich, gorgeous sound and ease of playing at a very affordable price.
If you want a BIG, dark, and rich sound from your metal flute, and also the ability to play those difficult high notes with ease, the J. Novo wooden headjoint is not only the most economical way to achieve these goals but also the quickest. In other words, you don't have to spend a lot of money and practice for years to
    get a big, beautiful sound
and master those difficult high notes.
You can achieve both of these goals - INSTANTLY - with the J. Novo wooden headjoint

Here are some comments sent to us by owners of these beautiful headjoints.
"Dear Mr. Novo. I have been using your head joint for about 6 months now and I have to let you know how many compliments I have gotten on my "Rich tone". I play a lot of Celtic music and sold my Irish flute because my silver flute, with your headjoint, is superior in every way to the Irish flute. This flute is a joy to play because I can hit the low and high registers easily and with beautiful tone. Once again, thank you for your talents."
    A.Yost,
    Connecticut
Another client said: "Your wooden headjoint is fantastic! The low notes on my Haynes flute are louder and clearer than ever before. I played duets with a friend and the blend and sonority of the ensemble was greatly enhanced by your headjoint. Your wooden headjoint gives a complex tone with lots of overtones and this richness makes a good ensemble blend. The solo sound is just what I want, too. Tone preference is very personal, and your wooden headjoint gives me the tone I have been looking for. I am very pleased with the headjoint and the whole process of purchasing it."
    J. Baker.
    San Francisco, California.
One very satisfied customer wrote: "This headjoint has changed my flute playing so much ...The joy from inside me is really difficult to explain. It is the difference between night and day. I think of you when I play and thank you over and over again. Getting a great sound was always my downfall and I had learned to live with it. But not anymore! Living without the 'problem' has set me free and I am able to really enjoy the music now, thanks to your fantastic headjoint. I can only imagine how many other customers you have set free too.... Keep up the great work !"

In an article written by Miami Herald Staff Writer, Bea Moss, we find the following: "Jazz flutist
    Nestor Torres
says he uses only the wooden mouthpieces made by Novo. 'That's my sound, because my sound is mellower,' Torres said. 'I hope he gets to market his products because they're innovative. His wooden headjoints are the best made now.'"
"It's been a pleasure and an honor to have met Mr. Novo. I consider him one of the best flute makers in the country. His unique design and creative talents make his headjoints a pleasure to play."
    Dave Valentin.
“It was such a pleasure meeting you. The very first event I performed with your wooden headjoint, my band and guests commented on the warm and wonderful sound as well as the flexible qualities your wooden headjoint added to my flute playing.  It has been a wonderful addition to the colorful palette of music we perform. Thank you for the chance to meet with you.  I count it a true blessing to have the opportunity to play your work of art.  My Jazz Quartet just performed at the Winter Park Art Show with smooth jazz station WLOQ - 103.1 in March 2009 – the crowd loved the sound! Please list me as a reference any time.”
    Shannon Caine
(Flutist, recording artist, and director of Beautiful Music – Orlando FL.)
"I have been playing a Novo wooden headjoint on my silver flute for many years. As a member of the Philadelphia Orchestra I used it extensively in both concerts and recordings. The combination of a wooden headjoint and a metal body produces a quality of sound that is to my ear, and to many of my colleagues in the Orchestra, especially pleasing. I highly recommend the J. Novo wooden headjoint to any serious flutist."
    Loren Lind
    (Philadelphia Orchestra)
"I've used the beautiful J. Novo wooden headjoint exclusively for twenty years now. It has given great joy to myself and my audiences. Once, a fan described the sound as a tropical rain forest. Another was struck by the delicacy. One fan liked the warmth of the tone it produced. I agree with all of them. Personally, I found that my control of the upper register improved dramatically in the first week I played it. All in all, its been a beautiful experience. I heartily recommend it to all serious flutists. They'll be glad they bought one."
    Ira Sullivan
"Every Novo wooden headjoint is a beautiful work of art. Fantastic craftsmanship! They produce a lovely tone quality that is very rich. One can congratulate him on a great achievement."

    TWO (2) YEAR CRACK WARRANTY
The following question was sent to us by a concerned buyer. This very important question, together with the answer we sent him, is included here for your interest.
Q: I noticed that other makers have only a one year warranty against cracks (or no warranty) on their wooden headjoints, but you have a two year warranty on your headjoints. This is unique and quite impressive. If your headjoint cracks during the first 2 years, do you repair it or replace it? And what if it cracks after the warranty expires? Thanks for your help.
A: First of all, the majority of cracks to any new wooden instrument, and this includes headjoints, will take place within the first 2 years of use. This is why it is extremely important to have at least a 2 year crack warranty on a wooden headjoint, or on any wooden instrument for that matter
    .
My eBay headjoints come with a two (2) year warranty.
If the headjoint (or instrument) is made from good quality Grenadilla wood, there is no valid reason why it should not have at least a 2 year warranty against cracks. If it does not,
    beware
, it may be made from inferior quality wood and will not last as long as one made from good quality wood. It is very important to point out that the wood I use to make headjoints is premium grade Grenadilla wood that has been aging and seasoning for over 70 years now. This means the chances of cracking are very small. However, if a J. Novo headjoint cracks, it can be repaired with no problem whatsoever because it was made from premium quality Grenadilla wood. When a name brand wooden clarinet or oboe cracks, they too can be repaired because they were also made from premium quality Grenadilla wood. But if for some reason a J. Novo headjoint cannot be repaired after it cracks within the warranty period, which is extremely rare, I will replace it at no charge excluding shipping charges (limit of one replacement headjoint per customer). And if a J. Novo headjoint cracks years after the warranty expires, I can repair it for a reasonable fee. It is important to know, however, that when a cheap wooden headjoint cracks, it is completely ruined because poor quality wood not only does not respond well to repair procedures but most of the time multiple cracks have developed which render it irreparable and useless. Always remember this: don't take any chances, don't settle for less, and don't be fooled by fancy talk. All good quality woodwind instruments come with at least a 2 year warranty against cracks, and wooden headjoints are no exception.
RETURNS, FITTING WORK, TWO (2) YEAR WARRANTY

The returned headjoint must not be damaged, cracked, or altered in any way and all conditions of the return policy must be met in order to qualify for the purchase price refund. Once the headjoint is received, inspected, and approved by us (usually within 2-3 business days of receipt), your refund will be processed. FITTINGS & WARRANTY
    :
The winning bidder has the option of having this headjoint fitted to his/her flute by either us or by someone else. If we do the fitting, the headjoint will be properly fitted to winning bidder's flute
    and
a TWO (2) year warranty against cracks
    (eBay buyers only)
will accompany the headjoint. If the fitting is done by someone else, no warranty or right to return will accompany the headjoint since the headjoint may crack during the fitting process if not done properly. There is a $ 30.00 non-refundable fee for fitting the headjoint to your flute. If the headjoint cracks within two years of purchase, we will repair it free of charge, and if the repair is not possible, we will replace the headjoint with one of our choosing of comparable quality at no additional cost to the original purchaser (buyer pays all shipping/insurance charges).
Accidental damage, abuse, and/or neglect voids the warranty.
Alterations of any kind, including replacement of original cork assembly, also voids the warranty.
Limit of one replacement headjoint per customer
    .
Headjoints sent to foreign countries will not carry the crack warranty because the fitting work will not be done by us (unless you send us the flute for fitting). (Please see shipping info below.) Each headjoint comes with detailed care instructions.
    Imitations In The Marketplace
As mentioned above, Mr. Novo invented his professional model ultra-thin Grenadilla wood headjoint for the metal concert flute 38 years ago in 1983. Many thinned wooden headjoints on the market today resemble the J. Novo headjoint on the outside but these are only imitations. The unique design and shape of the bore and the internal configurations of the embouchure hole (which you can't see) are only two of several features that make the J. Novo headjoint play better than all the imitations on the market today. Moreover, this
    J. Novo wooden headjoint comes with a two
    (2) year warranty
    against cracks
    .
Please keep these things in mind as you shop for a wooden headjoint.
Why settle for a knock off lookalike copy when you can have an original at an affordable and terrific price!
This handmade headjoint bears the hand-carved J. Novo logo and a serial number for identification.
A NOTE ON USING GIMMICKS TO
    IMPROVE YOUR METAL HEADJOINT
There are several products being sold today that claim to improve or enhance the performance of the metal headjoint that comes with a metal flute (silver, gold, etc). Some of these are gimmicks that really don’t do very much, and yet there are some that do improve the playability of the metal headjoint to some degree and it is these that I want to talk about here. Even though this “improvement” is mainly felt and experienced only by the player (because the headjoint is so close to the player’s ear) and not by the audience the player is playing to, it nevertheless is a good thing since it helps the player to enjoy his playing experience more than he had before. HOWEVER, there is a BIG problem here, and it is this: THE PLAYER IS STILL STUCK WITH THE SOUND COMING FROM A METAL HEADJOINT! So, no matter how much the metal headjoint may or can be improved by whatever means: a different crown, stopper, cork replacement resonator,
    whatever it may be,
the headjoint is still going to sound like a metal headjoint
    with shrill high notes and wispy low registers. It is NOT going to sound like a wooden headjoint that produces a big, rich, and warm sound with high notes that are not shrill and low notes that come out nice and big and loud;
a BIG difference that is felt and heard not only by the player but also by the audience the player is playing to!
Keep all of this in mind as you search for a better sounding headjoint.

If you do not want to send us your flute for the fitting work (not recommended), the cost to send you the headjoint will depend on your location. However, if you decide to send us your flute for the fitting work (highly recommended), you will have to pay for shipping and insurance to send us your flute and also for returning the flute with the new fitted headjoint. The amount to send to cover the return shipping and insurance will depend on your location and the cost of insurance to cover the actual value of your flute and the new wooden headjoint. Shipping cost for international buyers will depend on location and insurance for sending the headjoint alone. Headjoints will not be shipped without proper insurance. Serious bidders only please. NOTE: headjoint may take 2-3 weeks for delivery. Entirely made in the U.S.A.
This is not a cheap mass-produced copy with a nickel silver (or plated) tenon tube, inferior quality wood, and no warranty against cracks.

Please beware of cheap imitations listed on eBay and elsewhere.
No matter how good the deal sounds, always insist on a two (2) year crack warranty to protect your investment.
