    Description

    ***Comes with a flute bag.***
    The
    Indigenous North American Flute
    (Mid A) from
    Northern Spirit Flutes
    is based on
Kevin Locke's grandfather's over 100 year old flute
. The tuning on this flute is what Kevin calls
    "the real deal"
because he can play all of the old songs on this type of flute. The Indigenous North American Flute is made entirely from U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved ABS plastic. This flute is tuned to A Major/B minor. You will notice the fingerings for this  Northern Spirit Flute are different than most of the contemporary Native American Flutes.
The nice thing is the transition to playing this style of flute is actually quite simple. Instead of starting with 6 fingers down, you start with 5 and remove one finger at a time to get the minor pentatonic scale. The advantage of this tuning is you also have access to one note below the fundamental on the contemporary tuned Native American Flutes. The
    Lakota Language Consortium (
    http://lakhota.org/blog/2014/02/05/flute-lesson-book-available-for-pre-order/now
)has a flute curriculum written specifically for this old tuning
of what has been the Native American Flute. Kevin prefers the name Indigenous North American Flute, so I choose to honor him and those who shared songs and taught Kevin how to play.
    Northern Spirit flutes
have become very popular with backpackers, outdoor enthusiasts and flute lovers who live in areas of high humidity or weather that can be harmful to their wooden flutes. Northern Spirit Flutes are played throughout the world from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Tokyo, Japan; from Sheffield, England to the desert of Tunisia; to all the way back home here in Canada and the United States of America. We are very proud to be a part of facilitating the revival and revitalization of the Native American flute in the 21st Century across North America and around the world.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT THEIR NORTHERN SPIRIT FLUTES
Thanks for your reply! I got it about a week ago and have loved playing it! In the woods, in my kayak, in caves, above treeline. Thank you!

    Hi Richard

My flute arrived ahead of schedule.  I’m surprised how nice the sound is although I heard a sample online.  I know this flute will serve me well. Thanks for the personal contact and concern.

Received my very first drone flute last Friday, it made the trip to Minnesota without a scratch!

I was able to play the drone on the first try, without any problems, and I’m enjoying it so much!

Two of us have the same flute at Flute Circle today, so we were playing our drone flutes together, making fabulous music.
