Handsome Pair 1889 Gorham Silverplate Wine Bottle Coasters

Description

Presented is a fabulous pair of antique Gorham silverplate wine bottle coasters. dated 1889. The coasters are made in an ornate, classical form, with foliate scoll enclosed cartouches around the side and a double row of beaded decoration around the base. The centers are turned wood, original to the coasters, with green felt undersides, which are likewise original. Very handsome pair.
Each coaster is marked on the side of the base with the maker's mark for Gorham as well as a product number 0190. About 90 degrees around the base from this set of marks is a year mark in the shape of Queen Victoria's head in profile, for the year 1889.
This pair of coasters is in great overall condition. The silver plating is in good shape, but there is some wear to the high points of the cartouches around the sides. The wood centers are in great shape, with no splits or chips. One coaster has a little dent to the rim, as you can see in the tenth photograph. The green felt undersides have some wear and fading, as they are original. There are no splits, no other dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
Each coaster measures about 5 3/8 inches in diameter and stands about 2 inches tall at the rim. The interior diameter is about 5 inches.
