I LEARNED TO MAKE JEWELRY.  NOW, WITH MORE TIME ON MY HANDS, I HAVE DECIDED TO SLIP BACK INTO THAT WORLD OF CREATIVITY ON A STEADIER BASIS.  FOR YOUR PLEASURE, I PRESENT ONE PART OF MY STORY. . .

ROSE QUARTZ FACETED RONDELLE & CRYSTAL BEADED NECKLACE
Called "rounds" in the beading world, a rondelle is a round bead that is slightly flattened on two sides.  If the rondelle is then faceted, that means the beads have cut edges all over the surface rather than being smooth.  Faceting a bead makes it sparkle in the light & gives it a more elegant appearance.
This necklace begins with what is known as a "right angle weave" which is so named because of the way the beads lie at right angles to one another.  I used this weave because of its versatility & capacity to accommodate different combinations & sizes of beads to create a specific effect.
The base of the weave is comprised of faceted rose quartz rondelles which are then embellished on the bottom by rose colored "Misty Rose" Swarovski bicones highlighted with rose gold seed beads.  In order to create the curve, I incorporated smaller fuchsia Swarovski rondelles across the top, then embellished each of those smaller rondelles with three rose gold seed beads atop.
To finish off the necklace, the bead stitching that created the flower image between the sections was quite intricate, but the end result, if you look closely, is charming & completes the weave on each side.  I then added a “wire guardian” to protect the thread, allowing the rose gold chain to be attached on each end & a classy rose gold toggle to pull it all together.
An appealing piece which, with its dramatic mix of colors, will draw attention & incite intrigue.

I have always had an interest any items/objects that have been handcrafted, & since I have, as any Yorkshireman would say, a “dab hand” at small crafts, I thought I’d take up making jewelry again.  Hence
