Two piece fully handmade unibody wooden master-flute, made by the great German flute maker Gerhard Rudolf Uebel in the heart of the German flute making in Wohlhausen, beside Markneukirchen, Saxony. It is made from African Rosewood and as far as I know only one of this unique wooden instrument was built by Meister Uebel. The construction is perfect, there are no separate body and footjoint, these parts are in one here. It is far more than a unique construction; it brilliant contemporary flute and every moment is a joy that one spends with the instrument.
No more flute like this was ever made as Meister Uebel passed away in 1991 and very probably this was one of his last work. It is perfect, superbly crafted, closed-holes with offset G and its wooden wall is someghat thicker than the conventional German wooden flutes. It was built with left hand support. Beside its original German Silver Reform head comes with an additional custom made African Rosewood headjoint made by the very talented Hungarian head maker Mate Szederkenyi who constructed it specificly for this flute. Its tenon and crown weight is made of Silver and the head comes in its original wooden case.
The Uebel family's history of woodwind instrument making dates back to the 1870's in the Saxonia region of Germany, an area long renown for musical instrument craftsmanship. Gerhard Rudolf Uebel (1915-1991) took over flute production when his uncle F. Arthur Uebel passed away in 1963. Not to be tied to simply reproducing traditional flutes, Uebel made a number of innovative instruments, beginning in the late 1930's, using materials from grenadilla wood to aluminum. The production of flutes apparently ended with the death of Gerhard Rudolf Uebel in 1991.
Gerhard Rudolf Uebel had several inventions, such as the outstanding aluminum 'Cigar' for instance from the 1970's.
This flute is in perfect condition, the wood is healthy all over with no cracks or scratches. It has been completely overhauled with high quality pads and is in superb playing condition. It plays delicate sound with both headjoints with easy responsive blow in all registers and has a correct intonation. Serial number is 111. No flute like this might come up for sale as this is an outstanding piece of art.
