    Description

DG-10 Fossil Sand Dollar Polished Dendraster gibbsii California Matrix on Bottom
You are bidding on the above mentioned auction.
    Dendraster gibbsii (Remond, 1863)
    Siphonalia Member - Etchegoin Formation
    Kings county, California, USA
Lower Pliocene Period (5.2 - 4.8 Million Years Old)
A very fine example of a polished sand dollar fossil with well defined details on the urchin skeleton, stained by petroleum from the San Joaquin Valley in Central California. Great as a specimen for display or to make into a wonderful piece of jewelry!
Each of these specimens were personally collected and polished by hand by me.
Occasionally these sand dollar fossils will have hints of orange, brown, and black skeletal preservation from petroleum staining, resulting in amazing and dramatic patterns. Preservation is interesting in the area because you can find this exact same species and it'll be represented in fossil shells that look completely different but they are all the same but fossilized a little differently from others. I've posted other variations to show that.
This auction is for the above. Good Color. Good Condition. Contact me for more info and keep looking at my posts because I'll be posting a lot more of my material.
The pics will speak for themselves. No restoration. Sold as is.
