Description
This is a rare Brannen-Cooper Flute Headjoint made of Rose Silver with a silver lip plate, silver crown and a 14K Gold Riser. Riser cut is Modified Cooper.A high quality headjoint is an instant upgrade for any flute. This is a fine headjoint and will bring out the best in any flutist.
In 2004 I bought a Rose Silver flute from Brannen Brothers (see my bill of sale). Rose Silver is a silver alloy that gets its pinkish color from adding copper to the silver.
Copper has lovely sound qualities, but when mixed with silver it tarnishes far more quickly than sterling silver. (Rose gold is an alloy made of gold and copper.) This headjoint will show early signs of tarnish in perhaps a week or 10 days, depending on climate. As with any silver, tarnish can be slowed down by keeping the headjoint out of the air, such as in its case or in a plastic bag.
Because these flutes tarnished so quickly, Brannen recalled all these Rose Silver flutes, and built us customers all-silver flutes with the same serial numbers.
But Brannen allowed us to keep our Rose Silver headjoints (see letter in photos). This headjoint is what you see for sale here. There are not many of these headjoints in existence--as I recall, fewer than 30. (But please verify with Brannen if this detail is important to you. This number is not guaranteed, it's what I remember from talking with them years ago.)
The photos show the headjoint recently polished and there are also other photos from a few weeks ago, with tarnish after sitting in its case untouched for 6 years. The tiny letters "CSP" are engraved under the Brannen Brothers trademark, I do not know what they stand for.
Photos are part of this description. Please note the photo of the tiny dimple near the crown of the headjoint; a skilled flute technician, such as a tech at Brannen, could remove this, it does not affect the headjoint's playability. There are probably some scratches here and there. Note too that the lip plate and crown are silver, not Rose Silver.
It is very unlikely this headjoint will fit on your flute right out of the box. A flute technician will be needed to fit any new headjoint to your flute. Therefore, you should ask your flute technician about whether your flute's body is compatible with a fine headjoint before you buy any fine headjoint.
No returns. Shipments to Alaska, Hawaii, or anywhere other than the continental USA will need to pay additional shipping and insurance. Please inquire before bidding so your bid includes a shipping supplement if needed. Thank you.
