Antique Philipp Hammig Grenadilla Wood Flute, Solid Silver Mechanism/Head Joint
This is not a usual item for us. This beautiful flute belongs to a good friend who is now up into his 90s who has reluctantly decided to part with it for financial reasons. The flute has been in his family for at least 60 years and belonged to his older brother who passed away in the 1970s. It has been very well maintained and was being played by a close friend of his in one of the regional symphonies near his home for some years.  The following is what we have learned from both him and an expert examining the instrument:

Serial Number: 77X
Description: Grenadilla wood flute, solid silver mechanism with split E, D# roller on C foot joint, solid silver head joint with reformed lip plate. Instrument in maker's original case, also in excellent condition, with original Grenadilla wood tenon caps, brass cork grease case and thumb crutch. The flute would be described to be in excellent and fully operational condition.
The exact age of the flute is difficult to determine with any certainty. But, it is certain it was produced in wartime Germany, or before. The makers shop was bombed out during World War II and most of their records were lost. Hammig has been making flutes since the 1700s. So, it is possible it is much older with a serial number in the 700s.
He would love for the flute to find its way into the possession of someone who will treasure and appreciate it as he has for many years.
