Antique c.1870s CHRISTOFLE French Silverplate Vegetable Serving Tureen Dish
Description
Set an elegant table with this 19th century silver plated and lidded vegetable dish by fine French maker Christofle.
SIZE: About 11 1/2" wide (including the handles) and about 6" tall to the top of the lid finial. It is a large vegetable tureen. Interior area of bowl is about 9" wide.
MARKS: As shown in close up photos below ~ Christofle second standard full mark used on silverplate hollowware starting about 1862 ("cc oval/square mark"), silver content marque de grammage in square boxes,
ordinal numbers in the 800,000 range c.late 1870s.
The lid and the base have the same ordinal number; the liner has an earlier ordinal number (799,000 range). So this is very early Christolfe!
CONDITION: Given its age, the condition is remarkable, a testament to the extremely fine quality of antique Christolfe wares. An area of scratches on the lid. Minor wear to the plating on the finial. Wear spot on the interior of the liner. Faint impression on base. Fine surface scratches from normal use and aging. Some tarnish. Presents beautifully. Please ignore all the reflections in the photos (anything that looks like a crack is just a reflection off the brilliant silver).
