Description
This beautiful old sterling silver Haynes flute was appraised by the Flute Center in NY. The Haynes Company looked it up by the 4-digit number below & ascertained what year it was manufactured. It is a commercial model, with drawn tone holes, closed holes & a C-foot. It belonged to my boyfriend, John Starr, whose mother bought it for his birthday back in the 1960's when he was a budding flutist.
It's serial number is 5079 & has the cursive Haynes company name engraved on the mouthpiece as seen in the last photo.
The body appears solid & I don't know much about flute keys, but they have good spring. The flute comes in a velvet-lined old case which has the leather shedding in a few places. The inside velvet lining is in very good condition. For a 101-year-old flute that has seen alot of living, it's a beautiful vintage piece. My boyfriend, now deceased, would love to see it passed on to another musician who loves it or appreciates good antique instruments.
